EDUC 639 Introduction - Ed Tech Trends - Ebooks and Mobiles
Hello class. Welcome to my blog. I'm Dale, aka Justin Utherguy (pronounced "just another guy"). I created this blog for class discussions about educational technology and online learning matters. I hope you find it useful.
Justin, Thank you first of all for your service to our country! Words cannot express my appreciation for the sacrifices you and your family are making for us. I also appreciate your views on using handheld devices to engage students. I was one of the first teachers in my schools to embrace use of cell phones for student work. This was before the days of widespread smartphone use. I always worked with administration and parents to ensure we were all on the same page with allowed use. Using student devices noticeably increased engagement. Students would take pictures for genetics projects, mark due dates and test dates on their calendars, etc. I recently completed a review of Google Docs, Edmodo, and Ever note for EDUC 633, as tools for collaboration between teachers and students, students and students, and teachers and teachers. I believe we need to embrace these devices as educational tools rather than ban them from schools, which is common in many districts. Teaching students productive ways to use them is the way to go, in my opinion. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
